The impact causes the shark to break one of the bars and partially enter the cage before it backs out. There have been several incidents where sharks have ended up inside of diving cages, and the use of baiting has been called into question. Some shark experts feel baiting is risky and unnatural because it brings the sharks into close proximity with humans. However, others feel that the experience of seeing sharks up-close, especially great whites, helps increase awareness and support for shark conservation.
